Methods to calm fussy baby from Happiest Baby
Gentle bouncing on birth/exercise ball — be sure to securely support baby’s head and keep it stationary while bouncing; consider using a baby wrap/carrier to help hold your baby while bouncing.
Teething
Teething rings (gel-filled teethers are great) and cold, wet washcloths can help soothe your baby’s gums
Diaper rash (see related section on Diapering > How to diaper your baby)
Use gentle, water-based wipes or running water to clean their diaper area
After thoroughly cleaning their diaper area, let your baby air dry naturally (lay them on a towel or waterproof mat) or use a hair dryer (on low power & cool) or hand-held fan to dry your baby's skin
Apply topical ointment
Polysporin for open sores / wounds
Apply diaper cream
Popular diaper creams
Desitin (may not be ideal for sensitive skin). I recommend Maximium Strength (purple one). - Takako
Boudreaux’s Butt Paste - has a smooth, thin, clay-like consistency.
Vaseline
Mini spatula to apply topical products to skin (VERY helpful if you don't like getting your hands messy)
Congestion
Nasal irrigation
Saline spray / drops
Humidifier
Nail Care
haakaa Electric Baby Nail File - filing nails takes time and must be done regularly; an electric file helps make the process much easier and more efficient

A tip on making the panicky moments better: A one-page playbook
Ever have those moments when you don’t know why the baby is crying, and you feel overwhelmed—unsure what they need and unable to think clearly? We’ve been there. That’s why we created a one-page playbook we kept on our wall to quickly help us identify what our baby might be needing.
For our firstborn, we had this on the wall in the baby’s nursery.
//insert image//
A simple paper that lists the reasons why the baby could be crying. It helped us be more calm in handling those challenging moments.
This is completely tailored to your baby. For example, our son really liked staring at a particular floor lamp in his room and paintings in our family room. He often found comfort in being carried in the Ergobaby. We created a section called, “His Favorites” to remind ourselves of the little things that helped soothe him. It’s incredibly easy to put together.
